Yahshua and the House of Israel

Jeremiah 31:15. “Thus says Yahweh: a voice has been heard in Ramah, the lamentation of very bitter weeping -- Rachel weeping for her children, refusing to be comforted for her children, because they are not. 16Thus saith Yahweh: Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for there is a reward for your work, says Yahweh; and they shall come again from the Land of the Enemy.  17And there is hope for your latter end, saysYahweh, and your children shall come again to their own border “

A Voice of Lamentation

A voice crying- the unrestrained cry of intercession- takes place around the place of death, the sepulchre of Rachel somewhere between Ramah and Bethlehem. It is a place of intense sadness where Rachel died giving birth to her second son Benjamin, whom she named Ben Oni- Son of my sorrow. Genesis 35:18 The captives from Judah and Jerusalem were bound in chains there, waiting to be exiled to Babylon. Jeremiah 40 In nearby Bethlehem the innocent children were put to death by Herod in an attempt to destroy the Messiah. Matthew 2:15-19

Intercession begins in the depths, in the place of doom. The apostle Sha'ul perfectly expressed the heart of intercession in the ninth chapter of the Book of Romans :

I tell the truth in Messiah I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit, that I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Messiah for my brethren, my countrymen according to the flesh, who are Israelites,”

As a child my mother said to me when I was suffering:

If only I could have the pain instead of you......”

Yahshua was willing to make Himself nothing, Phil. 2:7to endure even death on a torture- stake Phil. 2:8and to descend into the lowest place,Hades, Acts 2:31to bear our pain.

Rachel was refusing to be comforted:

When engaged in true Ruach -Yahweh inspired intercession one refuses to be fobbed off with offers of comfort and will continue travailing in prayer until Yahweh Himself gives that lift in the Spirit which heralds the victory. He declares:

Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for there is a reward for your work says Yahweh”. When completed the intercession will achieve it's purpose and receive it's reward.

Who is the intercession for?

Ramah is close to the junction point of the territory of Benjamin and Joseph. Ultimately the intercession described is surely for Benjamin, and the Joseph tribes (Ephraim and Manasseh) the literal seed of Rachel who, not long in the future, “shall come again from Land of the Enemy.”17And there is hope for your latter end, saysYahweh, and your children shall come again to their own border”

The following verses (18-23) continue with the theme of Ephraim's return

Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he a pleasant child ? For since I spoke against Him I do earnestly remember him still ...”

Do we earnestly remember Ephraim and pray expectantly for his return - “and for the tribes of Israel his fellows” ? Ezekiel 37:19 Thankfully many pray for the Jewish people. Others are concerned about Ephraim but primarily to validate themselves, their followers and their ethnic group as Ephraim. In practice this rarely encourages “making themselves nothing” and truly interceding.

In general the Jewish people themselves have forgotten the House of Israel. I read a typical article two days ago titled “Why was Moses chosen to take the Jewish people out of Egypt ?”We forget that Eretz Yisrael is not only“the Jewish Homeland” but will ultimately comprise the Homeland for the Whole House of Israel.

Yahshua's attitude:

There is one Jew however who is vitally concerned with the restoration of Ephraim and the entire house of Israel. His name is Yahshua Hamashiach. Caiphas understood this:

John 11: 51. Now this he did not say on his own authority; but being high priest that year he prophesied that Yahshua would die for the nation, and not for that nation only, but also that He would gather together in one the children of God who were scattered abroad”

These referred were not to become the Children of Yahweh but were already those who were previously scattered,- the Outcasts of Israel. Mashiach has a special ministry to the House of Israel. It was a Jewish understanding that the Messiah's ministry would be in Galilee in the land of Joseph and from there the ministry would go into all the nations.Regarding the territory of Joseph, the Zohar, the chief work of the Kabbalah, has this to say:
In the time of the resurrection of the dead, many camps will arise in Land of the Galil, because that is where the Messiah is going to be first revealed, since it is part of Joseph's territory. “(Zohar, Vayakhel 220a)

Thus the Malakh said: Matthew 28:7 “
And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.”And Yahshua Himself: Matthew 28:10 “Then said Yahshua unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.Yahshua of course though born in Bethlehem also lived in “Nazareth of Galilee” (Matthew 21:11, Luke 1.26)

Yahshua's heart for Ephraim:

The astonishing parable of the Lost Son in Luke Chapter 15 deals with Yahweh's heart for repentent sinners but is simultaneously expresses Yahshua's great concern for the restoration of fallen Ephraim. Check out the text as we go:

  • Hesquandered his wealth in wild living” (13):

The lost son claimed his inheritance and wasted it on “dissolute living”(13) and was justly accused of devouring his patrimony with harlots (30) Hosea and Amos were prophets to the Northern Kingdom Hosea:2KJV And the LORD said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from Yahweh”

  • He went off into a “far distant land” and “there arose a severe famine” (14)

KJV Amos 8:11 “Behold, the days come, saith Yahweh Elohim that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of Yahweh”

  • And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate” (16)

When joining himself to be a ''citizen of that (far) country'', the younger son began to consider feeding on the pigswill. Ephraim was told that he would feed on unclean food.

KJV Hosea 9:3 They shall not dwell in Yahweh's land; but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean things in Assyria.”

  • But when he came to himself”........

The prodigal came to his senses and began to repent of his sins:

Jeremiah 31:18-19: N.B. This is the passage following “a Voice in Ramah “: I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself: ‘You have chastised me, and I was chastised, like an untrained bull: restore me, and I will return, for you are the Lord my God. Surely, after my turning, I repented; and after I was instructed, I struck myself on the thigh; I was ashamed, yes, even humiliated, because I bore the reproach of my youth.’

Bring out the best robe and put it on him” (22)

The lost son was honoured, being feasted with the fatted calf. The Father said bring forth the best robe and put it on him and put a signet ring upon his hand. The “best robe”, the one of many colours, (?) probably a sign of priestly authority, was given to Joseph by Jacob and again in Egypt the pattern was repeated:

Genesis 41:41And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt. And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen”

You have killed for him the fatted calf!”(30)

The older brother (representing those of Judah with an attitude problem to their returning brother) was not celebrating. Ezekiel reflects great tension between Judah and the dispersed of Israel returning:

11: 15 "Son of man, your brothers......the whole house of Israel—are those of whom the people of Jerusalem have said, 'They are far away from Yahweh; this land was given to us as our possession.' 17 …. Sovereign Yahweh says: I will gather you from the nations ….. “and will give you back the land of Israel.”

  • Yahshua makes it clear that the Father Himself had planned all this and is saying; KJV Luke 15:32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

Yahshua intercedes for the whole House of Israel:

Amazingly Yahshua's priority mission was first to the lost sheep of the house of Israel:

Matthew 10:6 &15:24These twelve Yahshua sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: But go rather to the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel.”

A “breastplate of judgment, the work of a designer” Exodus 28:15was made by Yahweh's instruction. It had “settings of precious stones, four rows of precious stones” Exodus 28:17and “the stones are according to the names of the sons of Israel, twelve, according to their names, the engravings of a signet, each by his name are they for the twelve tribes. Exodus28:21 28:17“Aaron has carried the names of the sons of Israel in the breastplate of judgement on his heart when he goes in to the sanctuary for a rememberance before Yahweh continually.” Exodus 39:14 In Aaron's case this was a literal physical breastplate to “remind “Yahweh of, i.e. to focus intercession for, Israel. However our master Yahshua now intercedes before the throne of grace as our High Priest.

...In the likeness of Melchitsedek there arises another priest who has come, not according to the law of a fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an endless life. ....... But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”Hebrews 7:14-17

The counterpart of Aaron's physical breastplate could be said to be the vision Yahshua has on His heart of the perfected 12 tribes towards which end He is eternally interceding.

Our Response:

A bride should share in the interests of her husband. I hope I have demonstrated something of Yahshua's concern “for Joseph, the staff of Ephraim and for all the House of Israel his companions” as Ezekiel 37:16calls it.

Let us link together with Him in earnest, Spirit empowered intercession, beginning in the depths, refusing to be comforted until we see “our work will be rewarded” and the House of Israel coming again from the land of the enemy, returning from Assyria and Egypt on the Highway of Holiness.
